Matches use the same 175cm human baseline (eyes at 160cm) as every conversion on this site. A match within ~5% is a strong signal; anything further out is usually a heroic-proportioned sculpt, a creature, or a scale that fell between two standards. All calculations run locally — nothing is uploaded.
Measure from the bottom of the feet to eye level in millimetres. That number is the gaming scale: a model that measures 28mm to the eyes is 28mm scale, 32mm to the eyes is 32mm heroic, 35mm is Legion, 40mm is Shatterpoint. How to measure your model

If it's still in your slicer — no measuring needed
Import the STL and read the bounding-box height in millimetres. That's your measurement. STL files carry no units, so this readout is the ground truth for a digital model.

If it's already printed — use the eye line
A ruler or caliper from the bottom of the feet to eye level gives the most reliable answer for gaming scales. Measure to the top of the head if that's easier, then pick the "Top of head" option and the tool adjusts for the ~8-10% difference.

How do I find out what scale a miniature is?
Measure from the bottom of the feet to eye level in millimetres — that number is the gaming scale. A 28mm miniature measures 28mm to the eyes, a 32mm heroic model measures 32mm. If you can only measure total height, subtract roughly 8-10% for the forehead, helmet, and hair.
What scale is a 35mm tall miniature?
If 35mm is measured to eye level, it is 35mm scale — used by Star Wars: Legion and Marvel: Crisis Protocol. If 35mm is the total height, it is most likely a 32mm heroic model, because top-of-head runs about 10% above eye level and 32mm models usually stand 34-35mm total.
What scale is a 25mm miniature?
25mm is the classic vintage true scale used by older metal ranges before scale creep pushed the hobby to 28mm. To mix it with a modern 28mm collection, scale it up to about 112% in your slicer.
What scale is a 40mm miniature?
40mm to eye level is the biggest common skirmish scale, used by Star Wars: Shatterpoint and Marvel: Crisis Protocol characters. It is noticeably larger than Warhammer's 32mm heroic.
Why can't I tell the scale from an STL file?
STL files are unitless — they store 3D geometry coordinates but no inches, millimetres, or scale label. Your slicer assumes the units are millimetres, which is why a downloaded file can come out looking like a giant or a grain of rice. Measuring the imported model in the slicer is the only reliable way to identify it.
How do I measure a miniature's scale without digital calipers?
A plain ruler works for most miniatures. Hold it against the model's eye line (not the helmet) and read the millimetres from the base of the feet. For printed models still in the slicer, the bounding-box height readout is even easier — no measuring at all.
